This past Thursday, the student body of Walker High gathered in the theater to hear the speeches that were going to be presented by the candidates running for President of Student Council. Each speech had something memorable to remember about it, however it was Kourtni Douglas’ charm and humor that brought the room into a laughter with each sentence she said—And with that she rightfully earned herself the position of President. Below is a small interview that catches a glimpse about what Kourtni has in mind for the school and how she went about her election.
“How do you feel after winning?”
“I am honored to have been elected President and I know that I have big shoes to fill after our amazing past president, Elizabeth Ward. I can promise that I will uphold the position of presidency with the highest regards to integrity, respect, and character. I am determined to do all that I can to ensure that Walker students have the best year possible.”
“What do you have in plan for Walker High School?”
“I want everyone to know that he or she is an important part of the school. I am always open to their ideas and opinions. Student Council should represent what the students themselves feel. To do this I need to know what those students think. I don’t take presidency as a role of recognition, but as a role in which I can really make a difference in what goes on here at Walker.”
“How did you prepare for your speech?”
“I feel like, in such a position, a speech should come from the speaker himself or herself. It should express who that person is and give the audience an idea of who that person is overall. With this in mind, I wrote in such a way that I wanted to be remembered.”
Congratulations Kourtni Douglas, the 2015-16 President of Student Council!
