The Walker High School soccer team charged into the second-round of the Class 6A state playoffs with a dominating 10-0 rout of Paul Bryant High School Friday at Ki-Ro Gambrell Field.
Walker took control of the match from the start and eight different Vikings scored goals as the team earned a second-round playoff game on the road at Northridge on Tuesday.
For the Vikings, Sergio Pastor and James Archer each scored a pair of goals against Paul Bryant.
Austin Lockhart, Julio Pascual Sebastian, Jean Paul Osula, James Berry, Diego Hernandez and Elliott Punton also scored goals.
Walker punched in its 10th goal with 16 seconds left on the clock, bringing the game to a close due to the mercy rule.
Walker (10-4-1) is now 6-0-1 in its last seven matches.The Vikings are coached by Greg Patterson and Daniel Branstetter. Walker is in the second round of the playoffs for the first time in five years.
Tuesday’s game will mark the second meeting between Walker and Northridge. The Rams won the first matchup 7-0 at home in the season opener for the Vikings. Walker has allowed a total of six goals during its current unbeaten streak.
Northridge (14-3-2) advanced to the second round with a 10-0 win over Hueytown in their first-round playoff game on Friday.
