Saturday couldn’t have gone much better for the Walker High School softball team.
The Vikings won a pair of area games and the ensuing coin toss to earn the regular-season Class 6A, Area 11 title at Memorial Park.
Walker (15-11, 5-1) defeated Gardendale 4-3 and 14-0 on the day.
“I’m super proud of our girls. This was a great win for this program and also a step in the right direction for softball at Walker High School,” Walker coach Karen Atkins said. “We have been telling the girls that rebuilding a program takes time, work, commitment and effort. Everyone made great contributions today.”
Hannah Lockhart drove in Mabry Norris for the game-winning hit against Gardendale.
Norris also got the win, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six. Against Minor, Norris tossed a four-hitter, striking out four.
