The Walker Chess Club held a tournament on Saturday March 14, at Walker High School. Students from the high school, middle school, and every elementary school in the system participated in the tournament. In the high school division, AJ Thomas finished 3rd, Colby Otwell finished 2nd, and Jax Kluesner won 1st place. The tournament lasted from 10am-4pm and included some very competitive games, one lasting an hour and a half. The chess parents provided a plethora of tasty treats for the competitors, including pizza and apples. This was the biggest tournament of the year for the chess team. Next, the chess team will begin Plunder Chess, a special variant that is very exciting for the students. Mr. John McGraw is the sponsor of the Chess Club and hosts these tournaments each year, he also sponsors the elementary and middle school clubs around the school system.
