Thanksgiving is a major holiday primarily celebrated by the United States and Canada. This is a day of thanks for the blessing of the harvest and making it through the previous year. Several other places celebrate to similar holidays, but none are quite like Thanksgiving. This holiday is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Thanksgiving is a fun time to celebrate with family and friends to pray and say thanks for what they have been blessed with.
On September 6, 1620 the pilgrims set sail for the new world on a ship called the Mayflower. Almost three months later the pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock. Several months later the pilgrims signed a peace treaty with some nearby Indians called the Wampanoag tribe. In late autumn that year the pilgrims invited the Wampanoag tribe to a three day feast to celebrate their good harvest. This event became known as Thanksgiving. In 1941 President Roosevelt made Thanksgiving an official national Holiday celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November.
Many people in the United States have their own traditions for Thanksgiving. For me and my family, this holiday consists of eating with our whole family, and hunting throughout the week. This is one of my favorite times of the year because it is one of the only times where the whole family can get together and give thanks. I personally think everyone should take the opportunity to celebrate this amazing holiday with family and friends.
