Walker’s going back to the state volleyball tournament.
And this time around the Vikings go in as a state title contender.
Walker finished second at the North Super Regional Tournament in Huntsville on Saturday, advancing to next week’s Elite Eight State Tournament in the process.
Three local teams will compete at the Birmingham Crossplex beginning Wednesday. No. 1 Addison won the 2A Super Regional Tournament title while Meek picked up the 1A Super Regional Tournament championship.
Both Cordova and Oakman were eliminated on Saturday.
The top four teams from each regional earn a spot at state.
Walker (54-14) defeated Fort Payne and Hartselle before falling to Arab 25-21, 25-9, 25-20 in the championship match. The Vikings will play Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the single-elimination state tournament.
The Vikings opened the day with a 27-25, 25-19, 25-16 win over Fort Payne. The Vikings then defeated Hartselle 25-18, 25-27, 25-19, 25-20 in the semifinals.
For the tournament, JoLee Dobbs had 215 assists, 30 digs and four aces, Miranda Bruce had 86 kills, 47 digs, eight aces, five blocks and four assists, Anna Claire Harris added 64 kills, 47 digs, four aces and three blocks while Madisyn Hood had 26 kills, 48 digs and three blocks.
Annie Jane Crump had 56 digs and five aces, Bonnie Sanders had 46 digs, Skylar Birdyshaw had 17 kills, 19 digs and four assists, Alexa Waid had 12 kills, five blocks and five assists, Sarah McMillon had seven kills and 10 blocks and Sevanna Banks added three kills, three blocks and four kills.
Along with Walker and Arab, Muscle Shoals and Hartselle also earned berths in the state tournament at the North Super Regional.
