Sara Woodley’s interview with Kyle Butler, new teacher WHS
Sara: Where did you go to high school? College?
Mr. Butler: I went to West Lafayette High School in West Lafayette, Indiana. I went to the University of Alabama.
Sara: Where did you teach before you came to WHS?
Mr. Butler: Oak Mountain High School.
Sara: How do you like WHS?
Mr. Butler: I love Walker High School. The students are excited about the school’s events and are very supportive of their teams.
Sara: What do you teach?
Mr. Butler: U.S. History.
Sara: How do you spend your time out of school? What are your interests?
Mr. Butler: My wife and I hang out with friends. I enjoy reading. John Grisham is my favorite author. I’ll watch any sport on TV. I love sports.
Sara: Why did you decide to become a teacher?
Mr. Butler: I enjoy being around young people (for the most part). I try to be a great influence on people, and teaching is a great opportunity to be that influence.
Sara: What is your favorite thing about teaching?
Mr. Butler: I really like talking with my students about life. I like hearing their opinions about what is going on in the world.
Sara: Do you have any advice you would like to give to the students of WHS?
Mr. Butler: Be open minded yet grounded in your beliefs. Always be respectful.
Sara: Tell us about your family.
Mr. Butler: My wife teaches at Summiton Christian School. My dad is a pastor and my mom works at Purdue University. I have 2 older sisters.
