Due to the threat of frigid, inclement weather, classes at Walker High School have been delayed until 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 6 and 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7 and Wednesday, January 8. On the evening of Sunday, January 5, a storm swept through the Southeast, carrying behind it a potentially dangerous cold front. This front holds the possibility of setting record low temperatures for Walker County and the state of Alabama. The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning for Jasper lasting from 11:11 a.m. on January 6 until 8:00 a.m. on January 8. This means that there is a possibility of icy conditions on the roads due to the precipitation on Sunday, so use caution when driving, especially at night and in the mornings. The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory and wind chill advisory active throughout the first part of this week which could be potentially dangerous if outdoors for a long period of time or if exposed to weather conditions while wearing inadequate clothing.
