The Miss America Pageant can be traced back to the year 1920. Its humble beginnings as a boardwalk beauty competition have evolved into the most watched and renowned pageant in the world. This year’s winner is a true quirk in Ms. America history. Nina Davuluri of New York is the first Indian-American ever to be awarded the title. Nina says, “I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.” Nina is a self-proclaimed “nerd” and plans on furthering her education. She graduated in 2012 from the University of Michigan with a degree in Brain Behavior and Cognitive Science. According to her Miss New York bio, she plans to apply to medical school and pursue a career as a physician. We can only hope her academic career will be as successful as her pageant one and wish her the best of luck with all future endeavors.
