The heart is an extremely vital instrument of the body that pumps blood from your head to your feet. This task seems like quite an undertaking for a muscle that’s only about the size of your fist; so, it is important to keep your heart in the best shape possible. Initially, analyze your family tree. If one of your relatives has had heart disease, you are at a higher risk for the disease. Although you cannot control your family history, you can control your behavior. Smoking, being overweight, and having high blood pressure can contribute to heart disease. Therefore, lack of exercise and unhealthy food choices are harmful to your heart.
Signs of some heart diseases or heart problems may include shortness of breath, dizziness, heart palpations, fast heartbeat, fatigue, or discomfort and pressure in the chest. Symptoms of heart failure include the signs of heart disease as well as swelling in your abdomen or ankles, rapid weight gain, and nausea. As always, make sure to consult your doctor if you think you might be having heart problems. Your doctor might want to run some tests to make sure your heart is working correctly. If you feel weight on your chest, arm, or below the breast bone, you could be experiencing the symptoms of a heart attack. More symptoms include weakness, anxiety, rapid or irregular heartbeats, or agony in your back and jaw. Remember, if you think you might be having a heart attack, contact emergency services immediately. Don’t take any chances or assume that you are simply having heart burn.
