Last Friday, a heavily armed man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and opened fire. Within minutes, 26 people were dead with 20 of them being children. The adults that were killed included their school principal and school psychologist. In this quiet town, this was something that was completely unexpected. This is the second deadliest shooting in history right behind the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech with a death of 32 people.
The elementary school students said they were ushered to bathrooms and inside closets and cabinets by teachers that heard the first shots. As police officers evacuated children they told them to hold hands and keep their eyes closed. In addition to this shooting, there was another body found at a different location that was led to believe it was the shooters mother. The shooter was identified as Adam Lanza. He had no criminal record and after the shooting committed suicide. President Obama, the father of two girls wiped away tears as he stated,“our hearts are broken today.” So, as you go about your week please remember the families who lost loved ones and especially the innocent kids who had their whole life’s ahead of them.
