Distinguished Young Women:
Our own, Ashten Duncan, is leaving tomorrow (Jan 13) to go to Montgomery to prepare for and compete in the state level at Alabama’s Distinguished Young Women Program. This Friday through next Thursday, she will spend her time with the 50 other DYW’s of Alabama preparing for the program that will be held on Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st.
She will spend the next week preparing by practicing the dances and speeches and by attending luncheons with the Cattlemen’s Association and the Kiwanis’s Club of Montgomery. The dances that Ashten has to learn and perform during the program are self-expression, the opening number, and fitness. The program will be held at Frazier United Methodist Church, and that is also where she will be spending most of her time. She will arrive at the church every morning at 8 am and will practice and train until after 11 every night. She will also spend time getting ready for a ten minute interview that will be held on Thursday and be conducted by the competition judges.
If Ashten wins Alabama’s DYW program, then she will move on to the national level that will be held in Mobile. We want to congratulate Ashten on this great achievement and wish her luck in the following days.
