Each week a Senior Athlete from one of Walker’s many sports programs will be interviewed and questioned on a variety of topics, such as pre-game rituals and mental preparation. This will provide insight on some interesting and unusual things our athletes do to prepare for competition. This week’s senior spotlight will be focused on Andrew Harris, a Senior cross-country runner for the WHS Vikings. Andrew recently received first place in the Cross Country Sectional meet.
Harris: Parmesan chicken with alfredo
Q: How do you prepare mentally the day of the game?
Harris: I usually try to run the race mentally first that way I know what has to be done.
Q: How do you prepare physically the day of a meet?
Harris: Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.
Q: Do you listen to any specific music or watch anything to prepare for the competition?
Harris: Well it’s routine that on the way to a meet I sit by Bradford and we always listen to that ‘gansta gansta’ music.
Q: How do you celebrate after a meet?
Harris: Go to CiCi’s pizza, and carry the team trophy around with me
Q: What do you aspire to achieve?
Harris: I hope to finish first in the State Cross Country meet and in track I hope to defend my title for the third year and get the state record in the 800 and win the mile. Also defend our relay title and break the state record with my home boi’s Hunter, Bradford, and Jeb.
Q: What do you like the most about being a senior on the track team?
Harris: I like being the leader of the team.
Q: What plans for running in college?
Harris: I am actually going to the University of Alabama to run on both their Track and Cross Country team.
