Saturday November 5th was a good day for the Walker Viking Cross Country team. Both the boys and girls teams gained key wins that will take them to the state meet. The state meet will be held at the Oakville Indian Mounds on Saturday, November the 12th. “The boys’ team was seated to get fourth and just one point from being in fifth in our section. They only take top three in each section, so we knew it was going to be a tough meet to just get in the top three, “said Bradford Lepik. The boys’ team took second place in their section making this their fifth team appearance at state. “We had three guys that really stepped up this meet and honestly surprised me,” Andrew Harris said. “We knew going into the race that we were really going to have to battle it out and that we needed everyone to give it 110% effort.” The boys had all five of their top runners place in the top thirty: Andrew Harris 1st, Bradford Lepik 7th, Hunter Hawkins 9th, Joseph Harris 24th, and Seth King 29th. The girls’ team had a really good meet as well. The team took third place overall, and five girls placed in the top thirty: Sarah Nicholson 4th, Caitlyn Muncher 11th, Amanda Cuomo 20th, Katherine Glass 24th, and Haylee Runyan 30th. They girls ran very well and are looking forward to state. The team plans on getting a good week of practice in and hopefully place well individually and as a team at state. We are proud of the Cross Country team for all of their hard work and success this year. Good Luck and GO VIKES!
