You won’t want to miss the next-to-the-last football game of the regular season 2011 when the Walker High School Vikings take on the Curry High School Yellow Jackets at KI/RO Gambrell field in Jasper on Friday, October 21, 2011. This will be the last region game of the regular football season with kickoff promptly at 7:00pm.
Statistically speaking this is going to be a great game for several reasons. As far as each school’s win loss record goes it is exactly the same with both schools sporting a record of 4 wins and 3 losses. However, John Holladay’s Vikings are currently ranked #23 in the statewide Class 5A High School football rankings while Shay Oliver’s Yellow Jackets are ranked #44 in the Wilson performance ranking system. Based on that criterion alone – Walker has scored 212 points with their opponents scoring 112 points. Curry – has scored 163 points with their opponents scoring 213 points.
Not too shabby and even better still in the Region 6 standings – the Vikings lead the Jackets with the Vikes #3 and the Jackets #4. In case you are curious, Hartselle is #1 and Cullman is #2. Even more curious, the Alabama High School Athletic Association ranking has both teams ranked at #3 in the region. This matchup is going to be a tug of war for both schools. Exactly which one is going to be bringing their A game under the Friday night lights in October 2011; you will have to be there to see. Who is playing football that night and who will be holding down the bench? Team #3 vs. Team #4 – always an exciting edge of your seat kind of night.
Remember, the pep rally theme for Friday is “Hunt Down the Jackets!” You should wear camouflage or hunting gear to show your school spirit. Just be sure that you don’t bring knives or guns (real or fake!).
