Now that students are settled into their class schedules and daily routines, the buzz around Walker High School is fundraising. Already seniors are pushing magazines to their families and friends with some encouragement from their senior advisors. Each year AO classes compete to see whose class can raise the most money. Teachers are gearing up heavily for the kick off, already advising their students to ask around and find interest. Mrs. Kitchens and Mrs. Dutton are already deciding their own AO’s will be the top selling classes, and have already claimed they will beat each other out of the race for first place. “Mrs. Kitchens and her AO need to get used to the view of second place,” Mrs. Dutton said, “I love her, but I will win.” Mrs. Kitchens couldn’t let Mrs. Dutton’s remarks go without response, though: “I have always been and always will continue to be the winner. Mrs. Dutton’s AO is no competition for Mrs. Kitchens. The winners are in room 42.” However, the senior year magazine sales are much more than friendly competition: students who raise the most money are eligible to receive free graduation invitations, cap and gowns, and even scholarships. Also, a majority of the funds go towards cutting down the costs of yearbooks. Next Wednesday seniors will have their formal meeting to kick off the magazine sales, but until then they are determined to close deals with potential ‘customers’.
Seniors are not the only group of Walker High School students gearing up for fundraising. Girl’s athletics is offering supporters a variety of merchandise as their current fundraising venture. All girls’ sports are offering Mojo bracelets, popular bracelets that improve balance and endurance. Anyone can pre-order these bracelets from any girl athlete. Volleyball girls are offering a new Walker shirt that is general to all sports and states ‘The Future Is Ours’. Competition cheerleaders are also offering football T-shirts as a part of their fundraising platform.
Several fundraisers are taking place that will come in handy for the upcoming football season: the Walker High School band is offering Team Tumblers, and all items can be pre-ordered now. The tumblers are offered in a variety of team colors – including Alabama, Auburn, and Walker Viking colors – and are ten dollars each. Mrs. Wright’s class is also making fans for fifty cents and all proceeds will go towards classroom activities. So to help support these fundraisers purchase your own Tumbler or fan today!
