Prom fever is already in full swing at Walker High school! Many dates and groups have already taken shape in preparation for the event. The event which is April 2nd at Highlands on Fourth is a little earlier than usual. This has sent a majority of girls into a panic about their most important aspect, the dress.
Prom season which begins usually around the New Year came early for Walker girls and if they’re not already trying on dresses at local dress shops they’re viewing them online. Several teachers are having the problem of girls looking at prom dress sites instead of doing their work. Mrs. Scruggs, who can monitor the library computers, said, “I see more and more dress shops, it’s taking over! Even my Media students seem to be looking more and more at the different styles.”
Then again who can blame them when there are so many different styles and prints available? According to Kristine Eikenbary from TEEN PROM Magazine, “For spring 2011 we are still continuing with the Grecian goddess look, soft and sexy draping accompanied with art deco beading. 3D textured fabrics are very strong as well; we are looking forward to seeing two tone 3D sequins that can be moved to either be blacker or more ivory. Prints are strong as well. There will be many different avatar tropical prints to very strong purple flame tie dye style prints. In silhouettes, we have a lot of very sexy tight shirred mermaid bodices with interesting overlapped draping. We also hope to see a few modern beaded mermaid style gowns that have detachable skirts which is great since you get two dresses in one!”
