We have 5 deserving members of the Homecoming Court. Take a moment to read about each girl. The student body will elect the Homecoming Queen during Homecoming week.
Lauren Sanders is a senior here at Walker. She is involved in Spanish Club and Student Council. She has done many things to raise money in her quest for the crown. She has sold food and drinks, sold t-shirts, glow bracelets, and glow sticks at the Walker and Maddox functions.
When Lauren was asked what her favorite memory of high school is so far she said, “Beating Cullman in football my senior year!” Lauren was also asked to tell about some of her favorite things. These were her answers, “My favorite Author is Nicholas Sparks, my favorite movie is The Last Song, my favorite restaurant in Jasper is Perico’s, my favorite radio station is 104.7, and of course my favorite college football team is the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Lauren was asked to describe a perfect day. She said, “I would say a perfect day for me would be spending a beautiful warm day on the lake with all of my best friends and family.”
Lauren was also asked why she wants to be Homecoming Queen and she responded with, “I want to be Homecoming Queen because I want to help the school out in one of the biggest fundraisers of the year, and have a lot of fun with friends and family along the way!”
Courtney Connell is a Sophomore that just recently moved to Walker. She really hasn’t gotten involved in very many things quite yet, but has really enjoyed being a part of the student body. Courtney has done things such as selling food and stuff, getting donations, and doing a car wash to raise money.
When Courtney was asked what her favorite memory of high school is so far she said, “The pep rallies because they are so much fun!” We ask Courtney to tell us about some of her favorite things. This is what she told us. “My favorite Author is Kevin Brooks, my favorite movie is My Sisters Keeper, my favorite restaurant in Jasper is Cabos, my favorite radio stations are 93.7 and 103.7, and Alabama is definitely my favorite college football team, ROLLL TIDE!!” She was also asked to describe a perfect day and she said, “A perfect day for me would be spending the whole day with my mom!”
Courtney said she wants to be Homecoming Queen because it is her first year here at Walker and it is also her first Homecoming so she thinks it will be a lot of fun!
Amber Ivory is a Senior here at Walker. She is very Involved in a lot of activites such as Beta Club, Student Council, Spanish Club, FBLA, co-head of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, 4-year Varsity Softball starter, a varsity volleyball player, and a Walker County Junior Ambassador. She has done a lot of things to help raise money for her campaign. She has sold food and drinks at the football and volleyball games. She also held a bake sale, which she said was a great success.
Amber was also asked what her favorite memory of high school is so far and she said, “My favorite memory would have to be last year in volleyball. We were the 4th seeded team and Brewer was seeded 1st. It was the area tournament and everyone thought we were going to lose, but we proved everyone wrong and we won!! We ended Brewer’s season.”
We also asked Amber to tell about some of her favorite things. “I don’t really have a favorite author, but my favorite movie is Matilda, my favorite restaurant in Jasper is Cabos, my favorite radio station is 95.7, and my favorite college football team is Jascksonville State University.” Amber was also asked to describe a perfect day, she said “A perfect day for me would be having no school and playing volleyball all day long!”
Amber told us that she wanted to be Homecoming Queen because she feels like the Homecoming Queen should not only exemplify beauty, but also be able to demostrate good character, good academics, and be involved with extracurricular activities at our school.
Saturynn Dorrough is a Senior here at Walker. She is actively involed in band, Anchor Club, and Centerstage. She has done a lot of things to raise money for her campaign. She has sold raffle tickets and sold snacks after school.
We asked Saturynn about her favorite memory of high school so far and she told us that she has really enjoyed all 3 of her years in Mr. Gowins’ Class. When Saturynn was asked about some of her favorite things she said, “My favorite author is Ted Dekker, my favorite movie is Remember the Titans, my favorite restaurant in Jasper is Victoria’s, my favorite radio stations are 98.7 and 96.5, and my favorite college football team is Alabama! Roll Tide!”
We also asked Saturynn what a perfect day was in her mind and she said, “I would say a perfect day for me would be spending a relaxed afternoon on the lake or at the ocean with my bestfriends or family.’
Saturynn told us that she wants to be Homecoming Queen because it’s a great way to raise money for the school, and a good way to represent Walker!
Julianna Hallman is a senior in hopes of being crowned homecoming queen. She is involved in many extra curricular activities inside school and in the community. This year Julianna is President of Walker’s Student Council, she is also president of the WAY Council which is the Walker Area Youth Council, she is Treasurer for Anchor Club and she is the Junior Board President for the Livelovely Foundation. She is also an editor on the Yearbook Staff, she is in the Interact Club, Spanish Club, Agape Club and she is a Soccer Sweetheart. To raise money, Julianna has sold items at football games and volleyball games. She has also received donations from friends, family, and businesses. She has sold and is still selling Walker Viking shirts and also shirts for her campaign.
Among her favorite Walker memories are, “Definitely having Cordle as a teacher for honors English 10 and for yearbook.” Some more favorite memories of Julianna’s years here at Walker are beating Cullman, the days Facebook was unblocked and she also loved Mrs. Goetz’s fourth block Spanish one class the last semester of her junior year. Lastly she added, “Of course a night that I will never forget, August 31, 2010, the night when Allison Farris, one of my best friends, won Walker County’s Junior Miss.”
Julianna’s favorite authors are Laken and Charlie Lovely who are the authors of “Through Charlie’s Eyes”. Her favorite movies are The Blind Side, The Hangover, Beauty and the Beast, The Last Song, and The Pursuit of Happiness. She said, “My favorite restaurant in Jasper, is the standard, Perico’s and of course nothing can beat Chic-fil-a!” When asked about what her favorite college football team is she said “I love both Alabama and Auburn and I really don’t choose sides, but considering that I am attending the University of Alabama next year I guess I better start saying Roll Tide!”
