I am very impressed with the Walker Viking Varsity football team this year. So far we have played teams such as: Cordova which was a jamboree game, Northridge, Mortimer Jordan, Cullman, Hartselle, Russellville, and Hayden. I am very proud to say our only lose so far was to the number four ranked team Hartselle. The Walker Vikings are entering their seventh week of play as the number three raked team in the 5A region. Our last games we play are A.P. Brewer, WestPoint which will be the Vikes Homecoming game, Curry, and Dora. These are all region games which we hope to win for a shot in the playoffs. We have an unusual schedule this year with our last two games both on a Thursday night. The Walker verses Curry game is always a good rival. This is a game between a city school and a county school both in the 5A region. Walker did defeat a 6A region school during this season which was Northridge. One game the Class of 2011 will never forget was the Walker verses Cullman game. In the last six plays against the Bearcats, the Vikes have been let down. On September 10th 2010 the Vikes left Cullman with a 24 to 14 victory. This has been a very spirited year at Kio-Gambrell Field. There are many students, parents, and faculty attending these games to support the Vikes. There has also been a large crowd at many of the away games. The Viking football team enjoys the support they get from everyone on Friday nights. So far I have attended every Viking football game and they are always a great football team to cheer on.284. We have not had as many pep rallies’s this year but the students bring all their spirit to the stands every Friday night.
