On Tuesday February 9th and Thursday February 11th, the Walker physical education classes left school during their p.e. period and went bowling at Jasper’s Bowling Alley. The bowling gladly reserves the entire rink for the p.e. classes and they offer bowling for a special price of only $3.00 per student. Mrs. Cindy Diehl, the physical education instructor works hard to provide her students with these special opportunities.
Students had been learning the technique to bowling properly for weeks and used the days at the alley to put what they learned to practice. The fifteen girls that went on Tuesday during second block were advising each other as they bowled and Mrs. Diehl helped when she saw the girls not using the right procedure. Mrs. Diehl’s classes had been practicing in the gym with rubber bowling balls for the past few weeks and the girls were happy to be able to really bowl and get out of school for an hour. The girls had learned how to stand, how to hold the ball, how to move your wrist, when to release the ball, and which foot to put forward depending on your dominant hand. The new instruction helped the girls bowl better than they usually do and was a fun subject to learn.
The girls said they had fun and were glad they learned the correct way to bowl. Each person had enough time to play one regular bowling game and almost everyone took advantage of a delicious treat from the bowling alley snack bar. Bowling is one of those sports that can be played well into the adult years, and Mrs. Diehl hopes to develop in her students a life long love for sports.
