With the loss of the four seniors this past year, the Walker wrestling team is in need of new leaders to step up and fill the positions. Coach Blankenship believes these roles have been filled by some of his younger wrestlers including Logan Black, Taylor Pulliam, and Todd Homan. Although Coach Blankenship has such a young team, he still has high expectations for his hardworking team that has already done well in their previous matches. The team has to be a tough group to do as well as they have in matches; especially their most recent tournament in Vestavia with Michael Lovett having a good performance along with three other middle school boys. Although the team has to be tough for matches they really have to be tough for Coach Blankenship’s grueling practices that consist of running, drills, a couple of live wrestling situations, and some sprints afterwards.
When asked what his goals were for the team this year he said “To be better at the end of the year than the beginning, and to prepare for the future.” Coach Blankenship has been pleased so far with his team’s performance and hopes that they keep up the hard work.
